Open in GIMP™ photo editor Extension

This extension streamlines sending images to GIMP, eliminating the need for manual saving. If the image has a valid URL, it is transmitted directly to GIMP. In the case of an image in DATA URL format, it is temporarily stored in your system's temporary directory, after which GIMP is invoked to open this image (you can modify this behavior via the options page).

Important notes:
1. To use this extension, you must have the GIMP photo editor installed, which can be obtained from https://www.gimp.org/downloads/.
2. If the extension cannot automatically locate GIMP, you can specify its location on the options page.
3. For this extension to function and open images in the GIMP photo editor, a native connector must be installed. Instructions for installing the native client will be provided when attempting to open an image link with this extension.
4. This extension operates as an open-source project, and you are welcome to visit and contribute code.

Features:
1. The ability to download images and transmit local file paths to GIMP.
2. Directly send image links to GIMP (though not recommended).

-- Legal Disclaimer:
This extension offers a convenient means of facilitating access to GIMP but is not affiliated with or a part of the GIMP photo editor. It is an independent, open-source project.

James T Kelley (ID: 000000c657642c51) Voted 4 ★ - Updated 11/22/2022 Works fine if you install the software it says to install with it. My only gripe is that, unlike the other Open In extensions, this one for some reason shows two menu options in submenu. I'd like it better if it just showed one option, like Open In Firefox does.

jan monsen (ID: 0000008a07df055b) Voted 5 ★ - Updated 07/07/2018 I was hoping to find exactly something like this. This is a great gift for anyone choosing GIMP over the ridiculously expensive Photoshop that really isn't any better than GIMP at all. Anyone that really gives GIMP a chance, and spend some time learning its tools and its truly powerful abilities will never go back to Photoshop again...why pay all that cash when GIMP can exactly the same and often even more and better than Photoshop ever did. Some more plug-ins and such, and GIMP has left the greedy Photoshop behind by a lot. Without the After- Effect Photoshop got nothing on GIMP... I just wish many more would learn about GIMP and what they are missing out on when they chose to pay ADOBE many times over the real value of that piece of software. Granted, they are very good on customer service, always available for advice and help, and dont mind to give single users special deals and help...which absolutely is really great, but again, very expensive. GIMP is fast free and powerful, and it has a nice learning curve, making it easy to use, and as the time passes it becomes invaluable and something that sooner or later will take over completely what used to be Photoshop domain. Try it, well worth it, I love it, and I'm into photography professionally, as an Astrograph and a semi pro amateur astronomer, I really need strong software thats easy but also contain more advanced functions, and GIMP got it all and then some. I promise.
