Project Fib Extension

FiB is a chrome extension for detecting Fake News on Facebook. When the user scrolls through their Facebook page, on the top right corner for every Facebook post, it would tag the news as verified and non-verified where non-verified is potentially fake news. It also works on twitter snapshots - checks if the user ever posted the tweet mentioned in that twitter snapshot, shared on Facebook or no. If the user did post that tweet, it marks the Facebook post as verified else non-verified. For pictures containing adult content as well, it would mark those posts as non-verified.

Stephanie Winkler (ID: 0000004c47c4ed93) Voted 1 ★ - Updated 08/02/2017 This extension rates everything from The Onion as verified. I'm not sure what type of algorithm they use, but clearly something is wrong. There are also posts marked as "verified" that can not possibly be verified because they are based entirely on the opinion of the writer. Example: "Ranking the Kylie Lip Color Kit Colors from Best to Worst" This extension should be removed since it can actually make the fake news problem worse by claiming something is verified when it has already been fact checked as false, is satire, or purely opinion based.

(ID: ) Voted 5 ★ - Updated 07/31/2017 I expected neo-Nazis and Trump supporters to trash on this, since they're the ones most associate with fake news and its propagation. That said, I'm glad this project exists. It's easy to use and helps provide some information that can help determine how fake an article may or may not be. At the end of the day, we can't expect a software to think for us entirely, and some people want that.

Mike Malter (ID: 000000a143a9b15a) Voted 2 ★ - Updated 07/04/2017 This software is basically BS. I contacted the developers and wanted to understand how they determine if something is fake news, and all I got was the runaround. Don't waste your time trying to get this to work (most of the time it does not).
