Overview
A microworld of Mendelian genetics. Genetics problems in context, in which you can make hypotheses, plan and make crosses and present the conclusions. It considers the main inheritance patterns: autosomal dominance (monohybridism), intermediate inheritance, codominance, multiple alleles, sex-linkage, inheritance of two independent characters (dihybridism), linked genes, gene interaction...
Five types of problems can be solved:
-Problems of genotypes. They tell us the inheritance pattern of a character and ask us for the genotype of 10 individuals (animals or plants). We will have to do crossings to deduce them.
-Inheritance pattern problems. We have to plan and make crosses in order to find out the inheritance pattern of a character. For example, which phenotype is produced by the dominant and which by the recessive allele, whether the gene in question is autosomal or sex-linked, or whether the inheritance of a character with three phenotypes is a case of intermediate inheritance or three alleles with dominance.
-Random inheritance pattern problems. As above, but we will be working with imaginary animals (unicorns) and the details of the inheritance pattern will be decided randomly each time we start the problem.
-Problems of pre-implantation diagnosis. A human couple has a family history of a serious hereditary disease and we will have to help them so that they can have children who do not suffer from the disease.
-Investigations. Imaginary animals (dragons) can have three phenotypes for a character. We will have to find out if it is intermediate inheritance, three alleles with dominance, simple dominant epistasis or simple recessive epistasis. The inheritance pattern is randomly decided every time we start the problem. These are really difficult problems, at the level of research for high school or university students, which will require a written report to be submitted to the teacher.

What's new
It is a program with 25 years of history, which was published by the Education Department of the Catalonia Government.

-Multilingual support. In addition to Catalan, the program can work in English and Spanish.

-Two new patterns of inheritance: simple dominant epistasis and simple recessive epistasis.

-A laboratory notebook, where all the crossings made are recorded and which can be consulted and the conclusions edited.
-We can do the Chi-square test in order to check if the results obtained are in line with the expected ones or not.
