Overview
Quick SHA Calculator utility allows the user to calculate the common SHA values over user entered data or user selected files. The user can also display the hash function parameters used to calculate the SHA value and copy them for use in another implementation of the algorithm. To aid in the calculation of the SHA value of various data sets the utility supports the following user selectable controls to modify and display the SHA calculation.
• Display the SHA calculation intermediate values for each message block in the SHA calculation. This has a limitation on the size of the data set the SHA Digest is being calculated over.
• Enter a number of bytes to be excluded (Skip First) for the SHA calculation at the beginning of the data set.
• Enter a number of bytes to be excluded (Skip Last) for the SHA calculation at the end of the data set.
• Enter a Prefix and/or Suffix data string to be included in the SHA calculation.
• Enter a Unique Salt data string to be included in the SHA calculation. A Salt value is normally added to a user's password to create a unique digest to minimize the use of rainbow tables to break the password. For this utility Salt and a Prefix are independent inputs but have the same effect.
• Repeat Hash. This feeds the output of a hash calculation back in as the input and calculates a new hash value. The number of repeats is set by the user. The hash repeat is used to increase the difficulty in generating rainbow tables.
