Overview
This is a simple app meant to demonstrate the concepts of Fission and chain reactions.
It's not meant to be realistic, just to demonstrate the general concepts.
It starts with a field of fissionable material. You can adjust the density of the field using the slider on the right.
You can adjust the percentages of uranium atoms, moderator atoms (reflect and slow neutrons), and absorber atoms (absorb free neutrons).
Free neutrons will interact more with atoms when they're going slowly. Adding moderator atoms helps to slow them down.
You can make the walls reflect so simulate a prompt supercritical system like a bomb
Click anywhere on the screen to add more free neutrons. The faster you click and drag, the faster the neutrons will go. Slower neutrons will interact more often with atoms.
The action can be paused and resumed with the play button.
The reset button starts over.
Try different combinations of uranium, moderator, and absorber to see what happens. See if you can keep up a sustained reaction without going supercritical and blowing up.
